Last night I had the opportunity to record a program at Nashville's First Baptist Church comprising a stage full of six grand pianos and a choir of 100+. The music was festive, and performed by eight to 24 hands. Perhaps the most ambitious piece was a reduction of Aram Khachaturian's "Sabre Dance." The players ranged from professional church musicians to piano instructors to hobbyists to grade-school students. While not quite an evening with the 5 Browns, it was, indeed, festive, spirited and well-received. The mics were a 20cm ORTF pair of Sennheiser MKH-8040s, with a DPA 4060 taped to the center of the stand, on line with the 8040 elements. The LCR clip is a blend; the LR clip is the 8040s only. The stand was 8' in front of the closest pair of pianos, and the bar was about 10' above the stage. The record chain was a DAV BG8 into an Apogee Ensemble, through Logic Pro. Merry Happy Hannukah/Kwaanza/Holidays/Christmas! HB

Does anyone else hear that weird little "buzzing" noise at 8 seconds when the pianos slide down? I wonder what that is. But anyway, I too prefer the LR.
