What would you recommend as a good inexpensive system for 24 channel live recording, for under $2k. I am looking at the presonus digimax or firestrudio or the Alesis or Tascam stand alones. I will be getting a split from the FOH via XLR. |

I am not sure about X48 prices, but with analog converters I am pretty sure a new 24 channel recorder is going to run more than $2000.00. If you can work at 44.1K or 48K, Maybe you can find an MX2424 with enough drives and analog i/o. THAT you can get for 2k or less. Danny |

The type of split will determine the type of recorder. Are you taking the split pre-preamp, active or passive, tranformer isolated or not? Or are you just taking line out of FOH, You'll need 24 channels of preamps if you are splitting before the FOH desk and then a recorder. Or something like an M-Audio Profire 2626 and two other 8 channel preamps over ADAT into the 2626 and into a computer. If you are taking lines from the FOH desk, the Tascam X48 and Alesis HD24 are options. |

I can get a split from the snake before the mixing board, I am looking at the presonus or Allen and Heath mixers and an Alesis XDR as backup.
