Hello Michael,

I realize that the mic techniques I describe are not that unusual.

I would like to say that the main thing I need to do with the mics is to blend a farther pick-up with a closer pick-up. Also the closer mics act as soloist pick-ups when needed.

I asked about it to learn something. There's safety in a multitude of counselors, but some are better than others.

I'm curious to know if you delayed any mics or mixed in analog real-time?

Michael

These are live broadcasts so everything goes out mixed to stereo on the spot. No delays on any mics since distance is inconsequential in this studio.
Console is a beat Neotek from 1996.

Sonodore are in another class than Schoeps and DPA.

DPA always sometimes strikes me as cold, hard.
Schoeps has that zingy sound I always hear from behind two doors. (way too colored for my taste)

Sonodore sounded as smooth as my Royer SF12, but omni, more highend and less noise.

It is the first omni I hear that has a really natural sound.

It's really curious but I've done similar sometime ago!

Very similar setup but on a small hall - with 3 MKH800 and 2 MKH40. Maybe there was an omni par far away for reverb, as little was added later, don't remember...

I'm really curious about those Pearls!

Thanks for sharing!

all the best,
ave.

You do know that the Sonodore mics have been based on a BrĂ¼el&Kjaer capsule from the beginning? Also, the internal amp of the Sonodores were quite similar to the B&K 4011. I don't know if the current designs differ, though.

All microphones react differently to different acoustics. The DPA 4006 definitely is one of the most used mics for classical recording. I would be surprised that a lot of these recordings are found to be cold or hard sounding.
