Thread Starter | Hi all Im planning on getting the fairly new Ambient Emesser figure-8 mic, to piggy back on my 416. I got a problem though. Im recording on to a Fostex FR-2, which has no M/S decoding. I wont be able to monitor the M/S signal corretly. Any of you know og a hardware unit (preferable small, and on batteries) which will make me able to do this? I was thinking about this one: Peter Engh - Sound Recording Interface Products but dont know if it will do the job? Thanks alot for helping out ![]() Best wishes, Mikkel |

| That certainly looks like the one. I've never used it but, in theory, that's what it's supposed to do. Let me know if it works. MM |

| It will *not* do what you want it to do - sorry, it's not really suitable. It's a transformer box that does MS conversion at line level - the only way you can use it for monitoring from an FR-2 is to connect it to the line-outs and then to a separate headphone amplifier. You *could* use it with a Graham Slee Voyager. Use XLR / XLR cables from the FR-2 to the Sonic Orbit - then XLR / inoi-jack lead to the Voyager and monitor there. Personally, I have an Audio Developments box for this - but it was discontinued a few years ago.

| Got it! THIS is what you need. Headphone amplifier, battery powered, complete with MS switch. Plug into the line-outs of the FR-2 for perfect monitoring. The FR-2's headphone amp is pretty poor and was designed for lowest battery consumption - this will by-pass the internal amp and give you a decent headphone amp. with MS monitoring. The Pearl unit mentioned earlier is just an in-line transformer to use with the existing headphone amp. I hope this helps. |
