| Gear maniac | I have been wearing hearing protection in bars, concerts and just about anyplace elese that's loud for about 30 years. This meant (and still means) enduring criticism and funny looks, but, Hey..my ears are my life. So...go hang w/ your buddy, and get a pack of ear plugs....I like the foam rubber, conical ones, which are about $5.00 for a package of 30. Your hearing damage should subside within a week. If you have any doubts at all go immediately to your audiologist and get professional advice. If your hearing does not improve within a week, go to a doctor. Danny |

| wear earplugs! if your ears ring at all you've suffered some level of permanent damage (usually not heaps, but it adds up). eventually you'll adjust and not really notice it as much but it's still not great fun. these earplugs are great and don't knock the sound down by as much as foam plugs, and they're a lot cheaper than the molded ones: Ear Plugs Hearing Protection Earplugs Products from Hearos.com edit: oops, i mean these ones: Dr. Doug's Ear Plugs |

| Lives for gear | Actually, from what I've heard ringing does not constitute permanent damage. It is quite normal to have some ringing after exposure to loud sounds but it will diminish after a while. However, it is certainly to possible to damage your hearing permanently and have permanent ringing of course. Se a physician. Take it easy for a while. There are better treatments for this nowadays than before. |

| Go to your audiologist, get a comprehensive hearing exam, and get fitted for custom earplugs. I wear 25 dB of attenuation just about everywhere I go. Sensaphonics / Products / ER Series custom earplugs |

| Over 8 hours of 80dB and any period of time over 120db will cause pernament hearing damage. From what you are saying standing ten feet from a FOH stack at a concert properlly at around 111dB or so, then yes, you quite possibly may have been affected by hearing damage due to the extreme spl level by being so close to the stack. It's like having an air horn go off in your ear. Or standing on a runway with a et taking off. It will sound like your eardrum is ripping. |
