| So i am new to using outboard Fx. The band i work for is looking to get some to start off mainly for lead vox, i would like to be able to add some Fx to drums and back up vox as well. How can i accomplish this in terms of hooking up the fx processor to our board? I want the singer to hear some fx in his monitors but i also want effects on lead vox in FOH. Our board is a CPM 32-4: 32 channels, 4 sub groups, 4 pre EQ aux sends, 2 POST, 2 aux returns. Everywhere i look it shows to send an Aux to the in on the processor and then send the outs back to an aux return. On the aux out going into the processor what do i want to send jusst what i want to get processed with effects? like a floor tom or a vocalist? Thanks guys |

| Send a post fader aux send out to your EFX unit, return it to a (or pair of) channel(s). Just make sure you NEVER send that aux send of the return channel(s) back to the processor - you will get a NASTY feedback loop. And speaking of feedback, try to avoid sending effects to foldback monitors. |

| I am aware of creating a feedback loop. I was just curious do i just send what i want to get processed like a vocalist or a drum tom etc... Then send it back to channel or channel's? Will that return channel just be Fx or will it be Wet vocals? So wouldnt you be mixing dry whatever with processed whatever in a sense? And for monitors thats what i have been fighting with was our lead vocalist had a TC helicon effects foot unit and i could never get rid of feedback in his monitors. So we got rid of that and i figured maybe a rack effects unit would be better to get a not so dry sound in his monitors. I spoke with my dad who is an engineer and he agreed effects in monitors is not good. Monitors are suppose to be a dry mix and thats it. Thanks |

Most aux returns are stereo so if you have a stereo effect then it's better to use them. I usually try to send all monitors dry. If your singer has an effects unit onstage then you could split the mic before the unit and use two channels on the mixer. One wet and one dry for the monitors. | |
