Question Solo Albums Recording Levels

I want record a classic guitar solo track in my DAW. What recording level is correct, the -18db=0Vu for a daw summing project or a -6db for a "finished" sound??
Thanks

In the old days when coverters were 16 bits, hotter signals were preferred. Today, with 24 recording, that is not needed. Personally - I shoot for -12. This gives some headroom and is has enough volume to manage well at mixdown. You could probably go a bit softer of the material was wildly dynamic.
