Question PCM D50 versus Olympus LS10

First off I have the LS10. I have tried to a/b as much as possible from what I could on the internet, but wanted to ask the experts if it really is worth the upgrade to get a PCM D50. I recognize I will not get a true "studio level" recording from this level of field recorder, but hand held use is very important. I am simply wanting to know if the built in mics and preamps are a significant upgrade from the LS10 I already own. I will be using this mainly for classic recordings.

You can judge by yourself here: Portable Recorder Sound Samples

For me it sounds like the answer to your question is yes.

That was what first got me to think about it a few weeks ago. I am wanting to find out from others who have used it in other situations.

Say-- funny you should bring it up!

Here is a smokin' little 8 piece horn-based dance band, fronted by a darling little blonde: "Duchess and the Afro Dub Rebels":

PCM-D50, about ten feet out from the saxes. The amazing ability of this unit to process overs of 7 dB and more in a completely seamless way never ceases to astonish me. And I am not easily astonished!

Thanks again for the replies guys. I will be receiving my PCM D50 shortly and will have some recordings up of Un Ballo in Maschera from Verdi in a couple of weeks (I sing the General Rehearsal on the 3rd of December). Once I have my aria chippity chopped, For your reference I am singing the role Riccardo and my aria in the Second Act is tough. So I am hoping simply to be in in good shape for the take. I might post it here to get an idea of what the pros think...thumbsup
