Question Can you use Super Cardiod Mics in Stereo pairs? XY, ORTF, etc.

Hi. Does anyone have experience using super cardiod mics in stereo pairs such as XY, ORTF, spaced pair, etc? It would seem like it wouldn't work well, as you would have a significant gap in the middle of an XY or ORTF arrangement I would think. Can you tighten up the angle and make a narrower more focused "super cardiod XY" ?

I am asking because I want to use MD 441s in XY and ORTF, and want to know if it'll work well..
(Good cardiod alternatives to the MD 441 can be suggested in this thread.)

THANX...

I read somewhere that ORTF was developed with Schoeps hyper's..

I recently purchased a pair of MKH8050 to use as spots but also as a stereo pair. I haven't had time to try them out for real yet but I expect good results in ORTF'ish and NOS'ish set ups.

Cool.
I'd like to find out what pattern they used to develop the ORTF..
I think that the Schoeps Hyper Cards aren't true hyper cardiods, they are a bit wider than true hyper cardiod, right?

When you do ORTF, NOS, XY, etc. will you tighten the pattern some? For instance with ORTF would you use 110 degrees or tighten the pattern and make the angle 100 or 90 degrees?

Seems logical to tighten a ORTF/XY etc. when using super/hyper cards, to avoid too much of a gap in the middle, but I'm certainly no expert..
