Talking Dolby Pro Logic II z - Has anyone used it?

Hey guys,

I am currently doing some research into advanced and advances into Surround / Ambisonics formats.
I came across the DPLIIz format and wondered if anyone here has ever heard of it, or better yet used it?

Thanks.

A

Never used it, but it is clear even from the brief section on Wikipedia that it is a technique for upmixing, not a format as such. So you cannot mix in Dolby Pro Logic IIz but, instead, mix in stereo, 5.1 or 7.1 and then accept whatever the IIz decoder gives you.

Also, there are only two height speakers, and both are at the front. This can not compare with the full-sphere localization available using Ambisonics. You are already into this, so will know about the over 200 Ambisonic pieces available for free download from Ambisonia.com, and that almost all of these are full-sphere. (Note that Ambisonia.com will shortly be moving to SoundOfSpace.com.)

Here are some links for Dolby Pro Logic IIz:

Share and enjoy.

Cheers for the links!

Are you involved with Ambisonia.net in any way? I have already used that resource a fair amount - and I am currently working my way through some of the recordings up on that site.

I hadn't checked Wikipedia - due to my seniors not considering Wiki to be an "Appropriate" source!

Thank again,
A

I am not involved with Ambisonia.com, although I have exchanged many e-mails with Etienne who developed it. My website is aimed at the domestic listener (which is all I am), and you appear to be passed that stage.

Wikipedia is not authoritative and contains a lot of crap. But it is always good for a first look, and for the external links.
