Talking How do live rock shows get recorded

It seems every rock band records all their shows onto a multitrack format for possible future use. What is the standard format? Hard disk? ADAT? It seems that it would take a lot of Hard drives to record an entire rock tour. Also what DAW? Protools? Logic? RUSH records every show. Neil Peart alone has over 20+ channels to himself. Include vocals, sound effects, Guitars, audience mics...that's a lot of channels. Do the bands take an arsenal of hard drives with them? Please let me know...just curious

Most of the systems use a 3 way split House/Monitors/broadcast. Then off to 64 tracks of Protools, which only require 4 - 192's now. Our stsem is smal but it can be expaned up to 96 channels. I hope future vwersions will have more inputs. If we have SMPTE for video we tie into the SMPTE code from the video mobile. It's a lot of cable!
Using tape is a thibg of the past due to the time limitation and the need for secondary macines to change tapes with no interuption.

I think you will find DTRS is still the standard. HD recorders are being used more and more but I still consider them back up to tape.

Tape is also a very economical storage format because my tracks may sit on a shelf for several months before they go into edit.
