So I have yet another piano session coming up, and I'm sick of record it in the same way. For me, this is either a spaced pair on high and low, or a coincident pair up by the hammers, and typically room mics to mix. Not that I'm not creative in my mic technique, but I've become inspired after reading this post that involved some unique mic placement for piano! I then got to thinking about bilateral positioning and PZM use, and want to try some other methods. So does anybody out there use any interesting techniques for piano, aside from the standards? And how effective have they been?! I love hearing about how others approach these things. PS: I'll be micing a baby grande, with no holes in the bottom board...else I would mention micing through the holes (which I have done many times on full grandes). |
