Talking 16 analog ins for studio & remote recording

I need some suggestions to upgrade-replace my system to get 16 analog ins to a PC. I will be using system for studio & live-remote use. I know there are a thousand ways to go, I just don't know which way. I have checked out the new FW all in one mixers. I currently run an Onyx 400f and am crippled by its lack of expansion. I am trying to keep the price reasonable.

I will prob mix in the box, but need to setup headphone feeds for studio and mix while capturing live shows.

Trying to keep price reasonable, and on PC.

I'm not sure what you mean by "reasonable", but in your position I'd go with the Lynx Aurora.

Why don't we ask the Remotesters?

Having done quite a bit of research in that field, I ended up using MOTU firewire hardware which for me was best value for money. For your purpose, it would probably mean an 896 (would allow you 4 independent "latency-free" headphone mixes while you yourself monitor through your DAW) plus some additional 8ch pre/AD combo. I've been using the Audient ASP008 most of the time when I needed more channels, but also Octopre LE or RME Octamic, and there are quite a few others worth trying.

Can't really say a lot about other systems, but I have occasionally used a Saffire which is quite similar as to routing and outputs. Not really sure about headphone mixes though.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. It looks like there are 3 or 4 ways to go:

(1) 8 channel FW pre-interface with adat in. Run another 8 channel pre-interface into adat for 16 inputs. Use 16 channel analog mixer for studio sends-monitoring and live mixing.
(2) AH Zed r-16 or Mackie "i"
(3) Alesis HD24 with 16 channel analog board. Used in studio to dump recorded tracks into DAW.

Am I missing anything?

US-2000.. interesting product but I always becomes suspicious when the spec sheet does not include spec's. :-)

The new Onyx 1640i sure looks like it would work well for you.
