I am looking for ideas on something to transport this splitter: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/gears...ter-edacs.html It is carried in a 20x12x10 cardboard box now (that it BARELY fits in), and that is not getting it. Before I just look for some type of typical carry bag that seems the right size, any creative solutions others have found? I'm thinking a regular carry bag is going to need a plywood bottom insert or some such--this thing is pretty heavy. don't need to take it on a plane or anything like that--just in the back of my car or trunk. |

Well, while you're waiting for that perfect solution you may want to Gaffer tape the cardboard box. I mean completely tape it up; spend the entire roll of tape if you have to, but find the right sized (heavy duty) box before you spend that Gaffer's tape. It will extend the life of that box quite a bit. You might even take your time to find the ultimate road case for your splitter if you tape it up right. A small utility roadcase may just be the ticket for you. A soft bag can work if the material and stitching is strong and long lasting. You could get the shoe maker to make something for you as long as you bring they the material to work with. I've brought my guy stuff like this over years with great success. His heavy duty sowing machine is perfect for the projects I threw at him. A heavy duty canvas bag with a solid bottom insert maybe the ticket.

Did I really spend 2+ hours looking at road cases? Great ideas, especially the road case one. I'm still digging through ebay for used cases (new are pricey), but if anyone is near Atlanta, this guy has a HUGE road case garage sale going on: http://richmond.***************/msg/1416243667.html Off topic, but the road case search led me to buying this table to take to my buddy's gigs where we fight with side by side unstable bar tables for our gear--one still left! DJ EQUIPMENT TABLE 30 FOLD OUT LEGS 30" HIGH $0 SHIP - eBay (item 220491260703 end time Oct-13-09 17:01:28 PDT) I'll try Lowe's and the other big box home centers to see if they have any canvas or other carry bags that look adaptable. Lots of ideas--thanks!!! Quote:

Oops! Wrong link for the giant road case garage sale in Atlanta! Here is the correct one (28 hours on the forum in two days got me confused...) http://atlanta.***************/nat/msg/1416362582.html Quote:

I would grab a used pelican off of Ebay. Wheels are always nice too.

Thanks for the suggestion. Actually, the Pelican looks like a better alternative than a road case. did not realize Pelican made SOOOO many cases. Have the feeling I'll be grabbing one for my mics and another for the other remote rig toys too. |

Pellican cases have a lifetime guarantee... Buy a thrashed case for pennies on the dollar. Send it back to Pellican and get a new one. I've gone through a couple cases and if the damage even approaches the point where repair gets tough, they just replace them. Otherwise, a repair is done that brings them back to spec. Oh, and I use a 1560 for microphone transport. They are fantastic cases. --Ben |

I'm betting you have the 21 by 13 by 7.75 exterior dimension one? There are LOT of those on ebay, and some very cool colors (even a hot pink one which would get some head turns...) That is probably perfect for a 16 channel split, but my 24 channel needs about 2340 cubic inches interior volume. Thanks for the suggestion--a good alternative if I can find the next size up that gives me the volume I need. Cheaper and much cooler than a black utilitarian Pelican. Not sure why I did not think of that option, and even called around to see if any friends/family had some old Samsonite gathering dust in the basement. Thanks!!! |

That must be one heck of a mic collection!!! That is the same size as my splitter application! I'm scoping out Pelicans right now for my mics. I'm thinking a shallower one than the 1560 is better for mics? Not sure why you are using one that deep for mics(?). I've never owned a pluck foam Pelican, but really like the idea for mics. I'm assuming you can "pluck", trim to custom fit the mics, and replace some to get a nice fit? Guess I'm off topic now....

Thread Starter | This one is too big, or I'd get it for sure, just to raise some eyebrows: Vintage Hand Painted Rabbit Samsonite Suitcase - eBay (item 300357157515 end time Oct-20-09 15:06:33 PDT) The old Samsonite medium 21 inchers are almost the perfect volume for the splitter. If I can find foam insert source for the smalll size, I'll get a matching one for my mic case. The Pelicans are nice, for sure, but the retro Samsonite is a nice touch. I'm just hoping the latches are secure enough for gear. don't want it spilling on the floor......especially the mics!!! I'm digging the retro look |

Check out this company they usually have some very nice cases around and the cost is very reasonable. HGR Industrial Surplus - We sell everything Some of the cases are the anvil type and some are the blow molded variety. They get 12 to 13 trucks in a day so the inventory turns over very quickly. The have anything from a watch screw to a 40 foot long plastic injection molding machine. They will ship if you need it.

Sometimes the people who tag the equipment have a very limited understanding what it is. I have seen them list cases under a number of different names including shipping cases, shipping crates, crates, equipment storage case, plastic case, equipment carriers and who knows what else. That is why I check their listings on a daily basis. They do the same thing with audio equipment and I one time bought 6 manikin heads which I knew were Sennheiser Binaural recording heads that I later sold on Ebay. I also bought 10 display stands which turned out to be ASC Tube Traps. I won't even tell you what I paid for them...but it was a VERY good deal.

Go get one of those plastic storage tubs from WalMart. That would work just fine.

The pelican is nice, but kind of pricey for this purpose.

I used a tub for a while but I like the suitcase because I can carry it with one hand. The tub works fine though.

I lost the Pelican auction, so maybe another Samsonite for the mics. Maybe the cream/pearl or whatever that color is. I do like the retro thing....
