on my baby grand piano, the wooden rocker mechanism on the upper part of the loudness pedal is creaking, and causing me great grief during recordings. the wooden rocker is attached to the bottom of the piano body, with a spring in between the rocker and the piano body, and it rotates on what looks like a wooden dowell, and apparently needs some lubrication. how do you lubricate a wood on wood joint like that? WD40? soap? grease? also, can i unscrew the mechanism from the bottom of the piano without 30 little parts going springing across the room? thanks.

We used to use paraffin to lubricate wooden drawers. Wax.

Try talcum or graphite powder. Most important... absolutely no liquids.
