Hi all, first post here. Just a quick question does anyone take acoustic screens and baffles when they are going on location to record, like for setting up decent monitoring area or for separation between different instruments? cheers |

When hauling by truck, I take a load of RPG B.A.D. panels and Abfussors to use for treatment of the control room. We also take a load of RPG wood Difussors for treatment on-stage. I generally make a wall of stacked 4x4 and 2x4 Difussors to assist horns or strings or basses on-stage. For small ensembles, I've made an RPG "shell" for the musicians and use the shell to get the on-stage balance and focus I'm looking for. You'll also see in the attached photos use of plywood sheets to tune the hall as well. Yes, this is a lot of trouble, but I feel that getting the control room and stage acoustics into shape is half the battle toward making a good recording. Treatment of the control room is all the more important to me because I'm usually making a stereo and surround master mix on the spot. .

When we do remote film and TV scoring sessions, we bring a number of ASC tube traps and large dampening panels for the 5.1 control room. I find this to be essential as a problematic control room can cause irreparable problems. I will try to post some pictures later. |

Same here; depending on the production and/or budget I also bring Tube Traps and such for all the (above) mentioned reasons. It's the sensible approach -- I wish all our portable dates had the budget to handle this technique.

Thank you very much for your replies. Just another quick thought, if you were going to do foley work at various locations what acoustic treatment would you want to take and why? I understand that you would need an idea of the room/space that you were going to make your decision, but I am trying to get an all rounder set of acoustic treatment that I could take with me for various purposes Hopefully this makes sense, again thanks for the reply's thumbsup |
