I have been asked to lead a team for a website that will host church sermons presented in the form of a search engine for topics. I was wondering if anyone knows the best remote way to assure the sermons are being recorded (what hardware is easiest to use?) as I will not be able to be in many places at once, and what is the best way to retrieve the recordings for uploading (I would want to do a quick edit and master first). If anyone has any input on this, I want to try to keep it as simple as possible as most churches would rather worry about what the people attending are hearing so if I could come up with a solution that is a simple click and go process that would make my life easier. Thanks. |

Well, We take the insert from our Pastor's microphone channel and record it with a everyday sound card. We save it as a mono mp3 32,000 bps and up to the web site it goes. Sunday after Sunday. Check em' @ Rocky Mountain Bible Church | Non-Denominational, Bible Centered, Evangelical |

I know churches using CD-R recorders; another using Garage Band; another using 128-track recording/playback system or something (not sure which DAW). If I wasn't present, I'd feel most comfortable recording straight to a handheld recorder off the board/insert/DO, etc. When the day is done, you can just grab the recorder, apply some effects (if any), and throw it up on the net. |

If I understand your question correctly, you want to take control of PCs remotely to make sure they are recording audio? Look into GoToMyPC or LogMeIn. Once you have control over a remote machine, you can upload the files to yourself, edit them on your local machine, compress them and then upload them to the web server. I HIGHLY recommend that you record your masters in a lossless format such as WAV or FLAC. Upload the WAV/FLAC files to your local computer, edit them, compress them to mp3, mp4, whatever and then serve them in that format. You don't want to record your masters in a lossy format and then encode them again in a lossy format. |
