Talking The Greatest Threat to Your Gear....

is "helpful musicians". Looks like this one got dinged while taking it out of the package on my last remote. I guess it felt a lot like a handle.

What would you do? I guess get a quote from JBL to replace the tweeter?

Here's two pics....one of the L and one of the R.

Thanks,
Keith

Lightbulb Suck it real good!!!

Keith,

From what I can see from the pictures you provided the tweeter just looks like it was squashed in a bit.

If the tweeter is not ripped I would place a vacuum hose over the tweeter and carefully suck the crushed material outwards.

I've been there and done that before and it works.
Keep in mind that you really do not have much to loose since it's only the covering to the tweeter driver.

$115 tweeter part off of EBay....all fixed when it arrives hopefully!

Not as bad as I thought it would be.

Having worked in the same shop with a speaker repair service. The vacuum trick is usually what they do when you drop off a dented dustcap. Of course they wait for the customer to leave first.

I get the sense that you're not sure if that eBay tweeter even works...

I'm not sure why you believe spending $115.00 for a tweeter off eBay is a better idea than doing the vacuum suction trick first.

You had nothing to loose. Wow. I didn't expect that scenario to occur.

Steve:

It's a new stock part and it's my main monitoring setup for mixing. I'd really like to have a non-damaged tweeter in there. I can already hear a difference in the high end with it poked in.

Even if I'm able to suction it out, the coating on the tweeter dome is a "dampener" according to JBL techs and if its rubbed off the titanium, there will be a change in audio fidelity. I questioned whether it was really necessary and they said if it wasn't necessary, a for profit company wouldn't have gone through the trouble of putting it on there

I might have been able to live with it if the repair was $500 but I've got about $3800 in this setup with the sub and I'd like it to be as pristine as possible. $115 seemed like a pretty cheap DIY repair to me. Make sense?

Now, the quest begins for some cheaper Mackie 824s for the on-the-road stuff!

Thanks,
Keith

Cool; I totally understand that mindset.
Now you have an extra tweeter as a back-up and there is nothing wrong with that!
