Nice guitar playing. ![]() I liked the MK21 better than the MK2. Even after compensating the level unbalance by attenuating the MK2 take by 3 dB and the exagerated shift to left of the MK2 take by removing the first 18 samples of the right channel. My preference relates likeley to the warmth of the MK21 cap, which is known for. I wonder whether you could have got a better result at a larger distance, 1 m or so, for picking more reverb. |

I just listened the two remaining takes. The third one is my preferred one. I guess that the R88 is the S microphone? Here there is a nice room sound. The MK21 take shall be attenuated by 10 dB for the comparison. Comparing the fourth take with the other ones is difficult because you played something else, which is darker and with chords rather than picking notes. Nonetheless interesting take. But would have been much more interesting with the same music like the three other takes... Than you much for sharing. |

thank you for taking the time to give me some help and guidance. The third track which you liked was the mk8 as the side and the mk2 as the m. This was really an experiment, I never tried m-s before! The mount used was the shure a27, which I guess is ok for this application? The matrix box, the audio developments seemed to work simply by me adjusting the input level of the two channels on the dav pre... My own preference was for the mk2s they seemed to capture the whole picture, although I liked the 21s as well. Initally the idea of doing m-s was that the mic positioning might be easier, bearing in mind it is only me doing both the recording and the playing. When the mk2/8 is collapsed to mono, am I hearing just the mk2 in mono? Regarding the distance of the mics, in my experience and to my taste, the guitar looses some its warmth when the mics are too far away..its a compromise because too close and there is a lot of nail noise. The re88 was used with the trp preamp..I found the problem to be that too close and the basses were very boomy, too far and the gain needed was huge..then the mic heard everything, all the noise from the street etc.. The one regret of the day was not to have had two mk8s which would have been interesting, although I am not altogether sure if I would have been able to position them correctly...! Thank you again for your help and advice, Kind regards, David | |
