Question Remote Tracking Headphone Mix Console?

Looking for a mixer to do remote headphone mixes and maybe some basic rough mixes for customers.

Totally remote setup. 24trk RADAR, 1-2 Reverb/Effects Units, CD Writer. No DAW.

Thoughts? Mackie Onyx 24.4, Allen & Heath?

Any other thoughts for a 24trk setup?

Thanks much,
Spindrift

Any other qualifications? Budget, number of headphone mixes, rack mountable, etc? Will the Behringer line mixer work for you? Not the greatest bit of kit but for confidence monitoring it can get the job done. In the meantime there is a HUGE thread about this. I think it's called "Monitoring off and HD24" or something to that effect (HD24 is in the title).

Hi,

Thanks for the input. I'd like to spend under $1500. I saw that thread and there was a lot of discussion about rackmounted line mixers which I find unappealing. I want to put my hands on a board and tweak the knobs I guess. My entire setup fits in a 6x10 trailer so I don't really have an issue with hauling it around on location.

One headphone mix is plenty as I have the Furman HDS6 MoreMe setup. I will likely tie Aux 1-4 to the 1-4 MoreMe channels on the Furman. An extra two would be good for FX etc. The Onyx has 6 aux sends.

I'm looking hard at the Onyx 24.4. Am I overlooking any sonically superior products in this price range?

Sure wish I had the $$ for a forklift to tote around an 8068 (if I had the $$ for one of those even!) THAT would sound good....

I think you're on the right path really. There are a lot of options in that price range to "get the job done." The Onyx series is miles above the past Mackie lines so I wouldn't hesitate to go that route. A&H and Soundcraft also have some decent options.

I ended up going with an Allen & Heath ZED 428. Very happy so far.

Thanks.
