dare i say it? yeah i will.... let the FOH engineer handle the effects. send them the vocal tracks dry and let them add the effects as needed. that way the effects arnt going back into the monitors. belive me, you really dont need effects in the monitors (some divas excluded)

Here's a great little old school trick for you... You will need to make a couple of male to female XLR and swap pins 2 and 3 on one end of each of the cables. I make mine about 8"-10" long total and always keep a few in my bag of tricks. When you have these "mysterious feedback" problems and do not have time to mess around, you let the feedback go for a few moments and start hitting your mutes. Log which mutes change (stop any) the feedback or not. Any mic that is causing feedback gets an identical mic taped to it and run to the console with one of those phase reverse cables placed in line. The singer just needs to get on one mic and the secondary phase reversed mic cancels out the feedback. Problem solved... Poof! I kid you not, this works like a charm and if you think back to the old days when you saw mics taped together on big rock stages, this is what they were doing. Please use gaffers tape though, because duct tape makes a heck of a mess of your mics. |

I beg to differ; some folks may have tried that trick, but (for the most part) if you saw two mics taped together back in the day it was due to the fact that there weren't any mic splitters available. Those early live recording projects used the double mic technique. They had to tape a record mic to the live sound mic where applicable.
