Talking Jazz trio, what do you think?

Here is a jazz/blues song. I wanted to get your opinion of the song. The idea was the bass and guitar were going to work off each other and play at 100% from the start to finish while the bass would still support the song. Drums keeping things steady.
Bass was recorded through a Manley Voxbox direct using gentle compression and a touch of EQ.
Guitar was recorded through a Fender Twin amp with a 4033 mic going into a Neve Portico pre, with a touch of a Mini Massive EQ

Thatas exactly the kind of the music I would love to mix beside my own stuff...
When I heard it I had an idea in my mind how it could sound....great like it...good palyers.

Yummy would love to try it but I guess there is NO WAY THAT YOU AND THE MUSICIANS GIVE ME CAHNCE????

Wonderful music.

The kick is a bit pillowy.
The rest of the kit is OK and not bad.
The drummer rushes and pushes the beat awfully hard once it tries to get cooking.

The bass could maybe have a bit more personality.
It is just kinda' "there."

The GTR sounds good and I have played guitar for 47 years now.
That means it's a compliment.

I don't mean to spoil the party, but please keep in mind there is a forum where you post your music.

He did IMO I like it a lot and woha it would be fun to mix it.
I have a Telefunken M 15 A think I have ideas what to do with this sound....love it.

I would mix it for free and if the band or recording engineer does not like my mix who cares I had the fun doing it.....well done again....

I will give you some more info. The song was inspired by the CD that features Larry Carlton and Lee Ritenour..two of my favorite guitar players. I wrote the song, and I actually played the guitar through my Les Paul using my fingers, and I also played the bass. The drums are BFD. The timing on the drums were loose. Perhaps too loose?

the crash cymbal is too harsh and "in your face". the whole mix needs to be pushed back.. it's lacking depth and airy-ness. perhaps a true stereo reverb?

good luck.

Very nice! I really liked the bass sound, may I ask what bass/strings you use?

Every engineer has their own taste. I wanted the music to be up front but of course want to leave room for dynamics. I would take the cymbal down a little on my final mix. I still have not run the 2 bus through my Avalon 747 optic compressor either which should help when I master it.

The bass is the best bass guitar Leo Fender designed: The G&L 2500. Bass strings make a big difference with the tone of the bass. I have chosen Ernie Ball for most of my session work.

First off, the song is really nice. Up beat, has a good feel, and I love the gutiar playing. It's not show off playing, it has a melody, a direction, and I like how you go back into the beginning section after what I would call verse 1. You play more simple on that part and leave room for the drums to breathe. I also like the bass playing. It has a nice groove and sticks to it so it's not too busy. Drums have a good feel, it stays simple, and does not play fills that are to busy. Recording sounds very good as well. Larry Carlton would be proud.

Nice.

+1 on " get the tape" suggestions.

Make the final mixdown to tape if you can, it enhances "emotion". Really.

I am just re-recording some parts of a song I am currently mixing and I played your mp3 through tape, just for fun.

That's what it does to the full mix (see attach.) as it is - you could also drive it hotter or mix differenlty for tape - or also separately blow some more life into BFD by re-recording drums only to tape, etc.
Of course this is a very "off" demonstration since I "taped" your 128kps mp3.
