Question Wireless mics in the EU

Hiya folks,

I just found this forum. Way cool by the way!

I have a job at the end of this month shooting doc style material in London, Copenhagen, and Ireland. I want to offer the production at least 2 wireless mics at each location. I have available to me lectros on blks 19, 26, and 29. From what I can tell I'm good in Ireland, but may have trouble in the UK and Denmark.

Any advice would be much appreciated even if they are simply suggestions for local sources.

Thanks guys. I'm looking forward to contributing...

My experience (YMMV) is that I've yet to have a problem with using Sennheiser, Shure and Azden in US freq blocks internationally (in England, Italy, Switzerland, Chile, Moldova or Russia) over the past 12 years. The outputs are tiny, and I doubt there will be government "sniffers" in the area... unless Jason Bourne is loose again. The worst that can happen would be if (and a mighty big "IF") someone should complain and you'd have to cease immediately.

Mine are 2-4 systems used in support of video acquisition... not part of a large PA rig or anything. I carry them in checked luggage with mixer, preamp, HDV deck, etc.

This has basically been my experience as well... I've used US blocks all over the place but that was on my projects where I was willing to take that chance. This is for someone else and I want to try and conform to the rules if possible. Having looked up some of the frequencies that are set aside for us my little transmitters emit about 10 times the limit in the UK. And I can't find much for Denmark.

I have some time, but I want to get wireless locked down asap.

Thanks!

Exclamation

The frequencies between 863MHz and 865MHz are legal all over Europe without a licence.

US frequencies are normally a no-no in Europe (and vice versa) though you may get lucky in some countries.

You may find that some US frequencies are usable in the UK, but they will have to be licensed on a daily basis at each venue (about £30 per frequency per day I think -JFMG will give you all the details).
