Has anyone got a tube 2-track in the NYC area? You know, an AMPEX 350/351, Presto or old Studer? Preferably fixed up to go 1/2 inch 30ips but 1/4 in 15 ips is okay too. I know some of you slutz must have a modified Ampex ATR with those Manley tube electronics, right? I have finished mixing my big band CD "in the box" but I'd like to put it on analogue tape through a tube 2-track before I record that back into the computer for mastering. I've done this in the past to an AMPEX 351 through some old Altec tube mixers as a "vintage summing rig". The Ampex that I use now sounds like frying bacon! At least one channel does. It needs to be re-capped, but who's got time for that shit? Anyway, I know Walter Sear has a couple machines but I don't have the bread to rent Sear Sound. -AF

| tape master suggestion
I can print your files to a modified Ampex 44oC running at 22.5 ips w/ 1/2" GP9 tape. It gives you a piece of the 30 ips sound while not losing low end and the 15 ips warmth. It's not tubes....but the GP9 with 1/2" at 22.5 is extremely sweet. I can play you samples. SpectraSound LLC Last edited by spectrasound; 15th September 2009 at 04:31 AM.. Reason: lost text |
