Talking Cheap shipping blankets

I know these things won't substitute good bass traps, but just in case anyone is looking for some cheap/new shipping blankets, check the link below.
6 New Furniture Moving Blanket Pads Warehouse Storage 9 - eBay (item 120457636378 end time Aug-19-09 22:56:06 PDT)

Price is at $46.50 for 6 new 72x80 blankets, which means you end up paying less than 8 bucks for each one.

Each one weighs 5 pounds and the price includes free shipping. I just bought a few, thought I'd post it in case anyone else is looking for some.

Interesting. Have you tested them?

i have used them on several occasions, and they are quite effective. i built a frame out of 3/4" pvc pipe and made a vocal iso booth type setup hanging the shipping blankets from the frame with shower hooks - it was a fast and easy and portable setup that worked very well also, you can roll them up and place in corners as bass traps. you can also throw them on the floor of spaces that are a little too live to deaden reflections some.

You said you used 3/4" PVC pipe to build the frame? did you have any issues with it holding the weight of the blankets or did it work fine?

Someone told me I should use 1.25" PVC pipe but 3/4" would deff save me some cash. I'm thinking of using 2 blankets per frame, which would pretty much weigh around 9 to 10 pounds. What would you suggest?

Someone on GS posted a link to this:
MOVING BLANKET Quilted Blanket Material Roll, `~`~`S BY THE DOZEN, `~`~`, American Made Moving Blankets, Plastic covers

I've been eying them since. They have grommets and weigh about 8.5 lbs (the ones in the ebay add are only 5 lbs)

Good luck.

cool

Yeah those blankets look sweet, and they seem thick because of the weight. But keep in mind I was looking around for the best price too. I got the blankets in the mail today, they weight just a lil below 5 pounds each, and they're a total of 6. I'm using two of them for each side of my iso booth.

So pretty much, each side has almost 10 pounds of blanket, costing me 46.50 for covering up 3 iso walls, while those you suggested, eventhough they look sexy, will end up costing you 61.50 (for 3 blankets) w/o including shipping charges or maybe even tax.

You should really consider getting these instead, more bang for your buck.

I just bought some about a month ago. It was 160.00 for 12 I believe with shipping. One side is black and the other is white. They work well. I'm at work at the moment, I'll check it out when I get home and send you the name of the place.

Actually, those MEGA wall clips look sexy, I think I'm gonna buy a few. But the cheap bastard in me is forcing me to show you the EZ Hang Acoustic Soundblankets EZ Hang Acoustic Soundproof blanket

Apparently they cost 4 bucks less, are machine washable and "envorinmentally friendly".. eventhough they kinda look exactly like regular shipping blankets to me... I wouldn't risk it... but hey order 3 and you get a free pair of crappy gloves

Those spec (and look) like the "producers blankets' that I posted earlier....only a lot cheaper.

I wish they had grommets, though.
