I am asked to be stand-by for a recording of an orchestra on location. The recordings will not be used for the final production. However, it is a great chance to prepare myself for a recording next year of an own composition. This is the gearlist: 2 Schoeps CMC6 with 2 MK4 Cardioid capsules One figure 8 Capsule (Can get more Schoeps) Brauner Phantom 4 AKG 414 Millennia Media HV 3-R Prismsound Orpheus Here are my questions: How many microphones should I use. (if not just 2?) Can go up to 12. Will I connect the HV3R by XLR Jack cables? If the orchestra is to be recorded for 5.1 purposes, does that change anything on mic placement. PS Will work with mac so cannot run controlsoftware oh HV 3R. Last edited by hanuman; 15th August 2009 at 11:57 AM.. Reason: Control software MM |

I did not see any true pressure omnis for mains in your mic list-- are there none available? You have several good possibilities with the list you gave. Rich |

Hi Rich, Yes I can get other capsules. Do you suggest using MK5s (in a Decca Tree)? |

I am not sure if the balls (a necessary item when trying to emulate an M50) will fit an Mk5. Better to simply use a pair of omnis (the 5 with rising top are fine) and another pair of omnis (or subcard) for flankers. Doing a tree correctly is ALOT of hassle in getting the three correctly positioned. Ric |
