This may sound like a newbie question, but I am asking it because I am curious in how other people approach recording overheads drum mics. Do you record it in 2 mono track/files panned hard left and right or just 1 stereo track? Sometimes I need to to raise the gain on 1 of my mics when im recording myself play drums. Then I guess most people just use a aux bus for the overhead pair. I guess you route the pair with effects by adding a second bus and sending it into the effect. Thing is, i see bfd 2 , dkfh 2 software drum instruments using 1 track for overheads. They also use room mics which i don't, but still, its kind of a different way to me. What are anyone's thoughts on this topic? Chris |

Unless you have to because you are short on tracks or busses, record every mic to it's own track. It's easy to link the left and right overhead tracks or send them to a stereo buss so you can treat them as a pair. Sometimes you have to mixdown multiple mics as you go, but if you have the luxury don't worry about it. |
