Question Live Mobile FOH Recording- Apogee>ProToolsLE?

I need to put together a live recording rig that I can travel on a plane with. I'm going to be using the FOH direct outs to record from, so I don't have to worry about mics to much (maybe a stereo pair in the crowd).

I've researched and it looks like going with the Apogee Symphony Mobile would be the best bet with my MacBookPro. I'll pair the SymphonyMobile with 2 (Apogee AD-16X). That will give me 32 inputs from the FOH.

Now my main question is: Do I have to use logic to record into? Or can I use the CoreAudio and record it in ProTools? The only reason is that I'm much more familar with ProTools. Now if it can be used in ProTools, I won't want to bring any Digi-Interface just to open protools.

Is this possible? Or would recording in Logic be the best way to go?

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you,..... In advance. I am on a time crunch!

You can only use Digidesign products with Pro-Tools. The only way to use those AD16X's is to get the HD card and into PTHD cards.

I would just track into Logic, Cubase, Reaper etc and then get home, plug in the digi interface and mix the session.

Thanks for the quick response!

I get it now, thanks for explaining.
I have HD at our studio, LE at home, and I guess now Logic on the road!

It sounds to me like a Sound Devices 744t is calling your name. 2 line inputs from FOH and 2 mics for crowd. No computer, no bootup time, no crashes.

Sounds good. Take the MBP on the plane with the AD16X's all in a single case as carry on luggage and stow it in the overhead compartment. Get oneof thosesoft portastudio rack bags with 2U of rack space and a laptop place. Add in two condesners and two mic leads and you should be fine. Maybe hire the looms needed or put themin your main luggage along with the mic cables. Maybe you might have to hire stands for the crowd mic's locally, or borrowsomefrom the production on site.

don't want to seem like i'm splitting hairs but thought i'd clarify. (its the other way around...) I think the OP gets the idea anyway...
Digi hardware is compatable with other software, whereas you can only use protools with Digidesign products (besides the m-audio/m-powered of course)...

Don't forget about pre's/converters with ADAT optical, which includes the AD16x!

How about 4 x Metric Halo 2882.

You can use the resource friendly MH Record Panel (built into the software) to record all those tracks at once, and also do real-time mixing/monitoring.

That way you can save your DAW of choice until post.
