| Wilco live recordings for film If anyone is recording bands live, and also filming, always feel free to write for any advice needed. After recording, editing and mixing wilco's music for their film, and a lot of other music for film, I can pass along some hints. |

| Cool, I'm not the biggest Wilco fan but I really enjoyed the DVD..thought it was extremely well put together and particularly liked some of the studio footage and audio.

| Heres a question.. I remember reading a couple live recording articles about Wilco, but i cant fort he life of me find em now, or remember what was what...Was this the soundcraft Ghost/DA-38 project?

| The main 5 page article was in the May (I think) 2002 issue of EQ. There were some follow ups, and there's something in the upcoming MIX. The EQ article was a combo of an interview I had with Steve, and my own writing of some of the more technical processes. That particular story was recording the band at the Fillmore in San Francisco, using 48 channels of pre-amps, DA-88's, and two Mackie 32X8 consoles for monitoring. The Soundcraft Spirit connection was the 80 songs I had to ruff mix in about 10 hours for the AVID film editing system. I don't know if EQ has archived their past stories. | Sure, what pres at the filmore dates? any particular quirks about recording at the filmore? where did you set up in relation to the stage and how were you monitoring?

| Well, I tried sending responses, but it seems that my Netscape Mac combo didn't work, so tried Internet Explorer. As for the recording, the EQ article gets into it pretty heavily. we used whatever mics the band had on tour (mostly Shure), through a transformer splitter into Aphex 8 channel 1788 pre-amps. Then to the DA-88's. Analogue all the way up to the DA-88 convertors. Remember that this is completely live, so there's a ton of leakage into the various drum mics, mostly the overheads. So there's a lot of band in those overheads. And a ton of drums in Jeff's vocal mic. So we mixed with that all in mind. Nothing too pristine about it, really. Monitored through a MACKIE 32X8.
