Hello, I've recently put 1TB drives into our X-48 units and because I couldn't find much info on the web about it I've put up instructions here if anyone wants to give it a try. Also included is info about putting in a second data drive. Enjoy. X-48 Hard Drive Upgrade Hugh Last edited by HughH; 27th July 2009 at 12:57 AM.. Reason: changed link |

Hugh, I don't have an X-48 but your instructions impressive nonetheless. What a nice service to make them available like this. |

Good work Hugh. I should mention that it is possible to format and install the X-48 OS on a brand new unformatted drive without attaching the original drive and a replacement drive at the same time. Its much the same as installing a new drive and OS into any PC. Just bolt your new unformatted drive in place of the old drive, start up the X-48 and immediately put the System Restore CD in the DVD drive (assuming you can still find your System Restore CD!). The X-48 will boot from the CD - eventually - and automatically launches a utility that formats the new drive correctly (including both OS and DATA partitions) and installs the OS. Then when the X-48 restarts, immediately remove the Restore CD from the DVD drive to stop it booting from the CD again. The X-48 should boot from the newly installed hard drive. It can be a little bit of a game to get it to boot - you may even have to pull the power plug to get it to shut down if the display says something about "Cannot Load Host". Just keep trying, it gets there in the end. HTH. |
