Question MADI splitter

Hi - looking for an optical MADI splitter to split output of A/D to 2 DAWs. I have found the RME MADI bridge. Anyone know of any other options. Will non audio computer networking boxes work or is this risky?

Can you just confirm in more detail what you are trying to do? I have used the RME 648 to split 48 tracks of ADAT output from ADAT cards on a PM5D to 2 x 24 track Radar via ADAT thru and two separate Madi streams - one on the BNC and one on Fibre to two recorders. It did make the 648 something of a mission critical box, bearing in mind this was in the middle east - having said that, it performed to order.

Hi - want to go :

mic amps (various) to A/D (SSL Alpa link) to optical madi splitter an then to 2 DAWs.

We can at the moment go:

mic amps (audients) to RME ADAT/MADI converter and then to 2 DAWs using optical and BNC from the RME. But this restricts us to only use the audients and ADAT. ADAT optical being the weakest link in the chain.

You should take a look at the Aphex site. They have a bunch of new MADI mults and interfaces, as well as ADAT to AES and the like.
All the best,

PS. Just got the 188 in for evaluation. From first impressions it looks like a good value for the price. We'll see later this month when we actually take it on a gig.

We use RME Madi bridge to split one Madi signal into 2 multitrack recorders it works like a charm.

I'll have a look at the Aphex site, I did not know they were making Madi products.

Mark, please post back in the Aphex 188 thread when you have had a chance to put it through its paces. Right now it's the top on my list for my new rig, but only because of the features - never heard it. Thanks!

We've taken it out on a few small gigs recently, but haven't really had the chance to compare it with with any of our other preamps.
First impressions seem to be positive. Interesting topology. Transformer coupled inputs (The x-formers seem perfectly adequate. Maybe not ideal but very workable) feed a fixed 26 dB amplifier. From here the rest of the gain is handled by what I assume is an MDAC based amplifier. The analog output has the option to take its feed from either the output of the fixed stage or the full line level output. The converters seem fine. Haven't really had the chance to compare against others directly.
The control is what really sets this thing apart. Fully networked, it was hung on the end of a piece of cat5 and controlled by a laptop. Very slick. The software also controls the MADI snake as well. RME better watch out.

That's it for now.

All the best,
