Question good recording mixer for live events

im looking into recording live event recording, I am thinking of getting a hard disc recorder (24 track) and a mixer so I can take a feed off the main board and run it thru my mixer into the hard disc recorder.

I think that means I would need a mixer with direct outs yes?

the only one I can find that is affordable is the allen and heath wizard 16:2 which has 16 direct outs, is there a good 24 channel mixer with 24 direct outs?

of course I suppose i could run the direct outs from the FOH mixer straight into the HD recorder and see if the HD recorder has any gain control functions built in.

what would u suggest?

mackie onyx 1640. only has 16 channels, but works like a charm. oh and you'll need a laptop with firewire.
