KICK << D12 SN BOTTEM << MD421 SN TOP <<< Beyer Dynamic M201 FOR BRUSHES.....WOULD I? i want to do it to be safe ROOM XY <<< KM184 and perhaps also oktava mk 105( but to me they sound a bit heavy mid 1K) questions i got.... is the mic setup good? what would i change. where will i setup the musicians. i got this jazz tune here, drums mixed on the left and bass on the right.....sound great and i would put vocals in the middle + guitar my idea is to put singer in front of xy room mk184 left drums right bass right again guitar. its an amp with a ribbon in front of it. would i go like this??? or should i put drums in middle? or bass? also, the kick i gonna record with d12. what do i need to reach, for now i think i gonna try a boomy loose kick with not to much attack. keep it easy. also im scared of getting vocals or bass in other mics. any sugestions? greetz peter ps tomorow i got some pics of the theater. ill post them |

Hey man, I would let the musicians place themselves in the rooms. Honestly. The human ear is an amazing thing and they will undoubtedly move themselves so they are comfortable and can hear everything clearly. This will translate into the mics (a perfect example is the singer and the drums). Keep a little eye on what the bass is leaking into and make sure all the spill is friendly. If you can't get rid of it, make a feature of it. This is all very counter intuitive but it has worked well for me in the past. Lastly, I would consider having a headphone mix available for the singer so he/she doesn't need to push their voice so they can be heard. This is more for their comfort than anything else. Good luck. I would get them up in that stage and get some mics in the hall. This way you can add as much of the room to the dry(er) stage as required. All of this is based on looking at a picture and, should, be taken as a starting point. Let your ears and gut instincts guide you. G | |
