Talking Some samples of the Naked Eye Rowsellite

Here are a few short flute samples of the Naked Eye Roswellite plus one sample of the Proscenium.

These were tracked with the Forssell SMP-2 > Forssell MADC-2 > SD702 at 96/24 converted to 44/16 in Samplitude. Mono files. Next time I'll do a stereo version. Also the room is not great because the ceiling is low, sorry.

3 different takes, same gain & more or less the same position.

Proscenium

Peace
Marco

hi marco - very nice playing. the C&T mics sound nice, both front and back. clean and more top end than i would expect from a ribbon. i would enjoy playing around with a pair of those. please do another recording using a blumlein pair of them, maybe around 6-8 feet out. have you experimented with a convolution type reverb for this kind of recording where you need to create a space from scratch?

Thanks for the samples! I like the Proscenium best, and it seems to have less "room" sound to it too. It's hard for me to make a decision based on a recording done in a room - the real test is a stereo setup in a concert hall, I think.

Oh and I loved the Syrinx snippet!

Hmm maybe I'll set up my B&O stereo ribbon and blow some tones tonight...

Aw heck I had to go try a recording for comparison. Of course I sound fairly different, but whatever. I tried to get the same "room" feel as your recordings Marco (though it sounds like you have a bigger room than I).

Bang & Olufsen BM-5 (hotrodded) about 3 feet out with a pair of Fetheads direct into Zoom H4.

I'd like to know what you guys think, in comparison to the C&T mics.

Excuse the numerous snippets of various works

hi corran - also nice playing. mics seem a little too close to me, and i would prefer a bit more space around it. mic sounds pretty good though - have you tried it out around 7-8 feet? have you tried a convolution reverb?

btw, are you familiar with takemitsu? or the bozza "image"? wife has one of her sophomores learning the image for OMTA competition - very neat piece. really cool version by alexandra grott on youtube. around here, we are still working on the medieval suite by hoover.

My room right now isn't even that big... (college life lol) And I am usually not a fan of adding reverb to a clearly roomy recording.

Yes I am familiar with both pieces and performed Image twice this year, in April and May. It's one of my favorite pieces. I have recordings if you are interested, though neither was a "perfect" performance.

Oh and I've watched Grott's videos a lot, yes. She's very good of course.

Hey Bryan,

Nice recording and Microphone. It seems to get some nice top end. Is this a modified microphone or stock?

Next I will try recording with the Naked Eye Rosswellite in Stereo and I'll post something. For now I don't have a lot of room to get too far from them, but I'll also post something when I get a chance to go to a better space.

Stereo Samples Naked Eye Roswellite

OK as Promised a couple stereo samples in Blumlein. I recorded to the SD702 in order to save time. At some other point I'll do the same with the Forssell setup and the M600 mounts.

The stand was about 8 feet up and I played about 8-10 feet out. The ceiling is a little taller but not a great room.

The handy stereo bar that you can buy for these mics is very quick and handy because it works with the regular monocle mount that come with the mics.

Let me know your thoughts,

Peace
Marco

marco - i defintely like the stereo samples better than the mono. since this is fairly dry, these samples sound like they might be a good challenge for someone to see how good a reverb they can create for it. i would try it, but i am on vacation in florida right now.

I like the brighter side myself. Definitely a better representation.
