Who does the sound for David Letterman?

I'm always amazed at how great bands sound on Letterman, do they have a staff sound guys, or do bands usually bring someone with them? Phoenix sounded amazing last night, even better than on SNL.

There is a great staff sound guy, but guests do bring their own mixers. I went to the show live in '06. The house band sounded perfect live. They are all great players.

how is that possible? how did the communist union guys not ruin the sound?
