Talking recording tonight!!

i'm doing a church recording, mostly choral, tonight. Most of the performance will be at the front of the room - i'll be using a SC pair in ORTF most likely. A small portion of the performance will be at the back of the room where there is an antique Thomas organ - I thought I would point a 414 in omni, located next to the stereo pair, at the back. All mics will be in the middle of the room - I'd like to avoid spot mics. Any foreseeable problem with this setup? I won't be able to spin the mics around as I'll be in a control room.

Thoughts or suggestions?

Chris

Thanks for your response - unfortunately my 002 rig suffered the infamous power harness problem today after 7 months of seamless use. Good news is that this is a two part recording picking up again tomorrow. I'll have to use my mBox to get through it.

Cheers!

It came out pretty well. I was limited to just the stereo pair, so a couple of times during the service I had to come in to the sanctuary to actually spin the mics so they faced the back of the room. Lesson learned: always bring a backup - in this case the mBox. It wouldn't have gotten me out of a complex recording situation, but for choral sometimes a "pair of ears" is all it takes.

Thanks again, everyone,

Chris
