Talking Conan's mic

Did anyone catch the tonight show w/ conan this evening? Just curious as to what the mic on his desk is. Thought it was a 421 at first but now i don't think so. Any and all thoughts welcome.

Just trying to satisfy my incurable need to identify every mic i see.

Thanks in advance

Same mic he used in NY, pretty sure it's a 4050. NBC loves 4050's

I didn't look at the mic because his show is so idiotic. Aimed at a 20 year old.
why is it that Conan's show is always only all about Conan?

I think that NBC has made a colossal mistake.

Who cares? The mic is a prop. I've heard those prop mics getting wacked a few times, never heard a thing. Are they even plugged in?

So, what does Conehead use to get his hair to stand up so far? It makes me want to push it down or pay for a pic of him off the beach without the "support".

That man must have gotten a building permit for that hair.

Craig Ferguson is way better than anyone else in late night tv. If anyone hasn't caught his show after Dave Letterman's yet, do so! Brace for funny.

Been A huge Conan fan for years but gotta admit this is true. I think a lot of Ferguson's monologues are done on the fly without much in the way of cue cards. He's brilliant.

Ferguson and Kimmel are 100 times funnier/smarter than Conan. Actually, Conan just isn't funny -- worse than boring, he makes us want to change the channel...

So, I'm guessing his mic won't help or hurt...

I think it's gotten taller over the years! It would be OK if he didn't create that giant notch in his head where his hair parts. Stylist! Where's the hair stylist?!

Adults call that a receding hairline.

It's a generational thing. My generation (the twenty-somethings) tend to love Conan, and he'll stick with us for a while. I never liked Leno, because he was of the older generation. I don't care for Fallon that much, because he's aimed towards kids that are 15. He'll grow to become an icon as all of them do. As each comedian/host grows, so does the demographic towards which they cater.

Come on, Letterman with Bill Cosby last night? Talk about the Dinosaur hour! (No offense though, I love them all)

If we can learn to accept and appreciate different styles of comedy, the world would be a funnier place.

Now we just need to see an old RCA ribbon on that desk!

I agree about Conan -- everything he does is designed to keep the focus on him. That's completely the wrong approach -- the guests are the stars, the one's with something to say (and sell, of course). Johnny Carson knew that and was a great interviewer. I can't watch Conan with a guest for an entire minute before flipping back to Craig Ferguson.

Agreed. It is all about him. Watching his first night on the tonight show now on Hulu, it sucks, same shit he always does, make jokes about himself, talks about himself the whole time, skits about himself, etc. To much ego/self involved. Leno and Letterman all the way, those guys don't project a ton of themselves into the show which ultimately makes in funnier and more enjoyable to watch. I am in my 20 somethings, every girlfriend I have ever have just LOVES Conan though. Not me......I do feel most in my age group love him though for whatever reason.

And yea, they always use wireless lavs, the mic on the stand is just a prop.

thumbsup Although I think Fallon is worse than all of them. It's almost sad to watch him try so hard. I give his show maybe one more season before he gets replaced by someone with something resembling a sense of humor.

I like Conan...

and no, he's not a great "interviewer"....

But, I don't think the interviews are all that important (anymore)..they are mainly rehearsed bits to try to make the guest appealing and "funny" and promote whatever they are promoting in a couple of minutes...most guests aren't funny, so the interviewer/comedian has to make it funny...

if the guest is someone like Will Ferrell, he obviously prepares comedy bits with the show and Conan becomes the straight man...
