Hi! I'm beginning a proposal to the city for an installation in an outdoor space. I'm running into some snags along the way - all solvable I think. Lets see what you brains can think up to help me solve this problem ![]() • I will be setting up both microphones and speakers around the public space. • Everything must be wireless • The transmission must reach the "base" about 500-feet away from the furthest point of the public space and 200-feet from the closest point. • The microphones and speakers will be housed in a secure immovable weatherproof chassis • Assuming that this thing will be up for over 3 months, I'm also looking for the longest battery life in all of the remote mics and speakers So I originally was thinking wi-fi. The "base" will easily transmit wi-fi the full length of the public space with a directional antenna. Recording and playback could be done over the wireless network. Problem is that this whole operation needs to be battery powered! So I think Wi-Fi might not work because it needs a good amount of juice. Bluetooth obviously doesn't have the range needed here. Next Im thinking some sort of electret wireless system and a wireless speaker system. But everything I see is rated at 250 feet or so - not enough. Next, I'm thinking some sort of FM transmitter that is battery powered. So I'm just wondering how you might approach this or if you know of any super efficient transmitter/receiver systems that have a long battery life and can reach up to 500ft! Thanks |

Klein & Hummel make the KLEIN + HUMMEL, PAS 100 - Portable Amplified Speaker, that can accept up to two Sennheiser wireless mic receivers in it's slots. We have a few of these puppies and work very well for us.

did you figure out how you would charge the battery powered speakers yet? i guess it would be done at the end of the day or cycle. i also wonder how much battery time you would get with this setup? |

Not sure I would even attempt doing things this way. Why on the earth put up wireless as an absolute requirement? Creates all kinds of extra problems: - more expensive equipment - more interesting to steal - requires recharging of the batteries - more possibilites for RFI interference and such - ... the list goes on Running wires for the limited stretch is most often neither difficult nor expensive. Sorry, whish I could help with the question as posed, no ideas there though. // Gunnar |
