Talking Studer Vista vintage dynamics

Hi all!

Our company has merged with another OB company, adding two trucks with vista eights to our fleet

Although Im still a big Lawo fan, I do love the Studer desks..

Anyway, just wanted to ask your opinion on the standard vs vintage dynamics on the desks..

Have only been using the standard dynamics thusfar, very very transparent, pretty nice really..

Any experiences here?

The vintage sound to me does not really emulate a classic 1176, SSL G384, LA-2A, or a Fairchild -just my opinion-, so I use the clean ones, which are darn close to transparent and work very well for me.

If I want the real thing, I bring it. Yes, the comp on the mix buss does not add "glue" like my SSL comp, but I have not had complaints on my live music mixes lacking glue from the Studers.

Ever tried the "vintage" one on lead vocal? Good?

I never have, to be honest. i plugged the mic in and listened to the different settings at the desk, dialed in what I liked, and went with it.

Would love to learn if I've been missing something. Of course, I bring Summit, Valvoronics, Manley, Purple, Drawmers and Distressors where other people swear by Valley, DBX, Presonus, BSS etc. Comps can be SO specific!

I've been using the Studer dynamics for a while now, and the vintage dynamics do sound a bit nicer to my ears... The standard ones are still great though. I still patch in a distressor for lead vox, but I would not hesitate using the vintage dynamics for lead vocals if needed..

The vintage is a really nice comp. I use it on tracks and I use the standard on the busses and output.
