Question Two Yamaha 01V96s? (Live Gig)

I will be using two Yamaha 01V96 digital mixers to run a live show. Both mixers are needed to get the required number of channels. We will also be using both mixers to their max potential (nearly every output and input will be utilized).

Analog Method

Use DI boxes and or 1/4" Y adapters to combine the analog outputs of each board. Not sure what to do about the XLR main outputs. Could possibly use a smaller mixer to sum the signals. Any better ideas?

Optical Method

The optical outputs for each board will be used for multitrack recording (max 8 channels from each board). I have thought about splitting the optical signal from one board and sending it to both the recorder and the other board. This would allow all channels to be accessed and mixed from the two pages on one of the mixers. The recorder will serve as the master clock for both boards. This is the splitter that I may use.

For only $3.20 each when QTY 50+ purchased - DIGITAL OPTICAL TOSLINK SPLITTER ADAPTER | Toslink Adapter

Any downsides to this method?
