Hi all, Our (modest, working pub) band is looking at updating to wireless mics. There's certainly no lack of affordable stuff about but I'm wary of anything with too-cheap-a mic capsule. We already have a swag of 58s which sound great and would rather use a 'plug-on' system to convert them, but I'm not having much luck finding suitable products. Sennheiser have the SKP100 which combined with a receiver well over AU$1200... a bit rich for us (especially because we want to run 4 mics). Audio Technica's stuff appears to be designed for on-camera usage. Samson have the Airline 77 system which is very reasonably priced, but as far as I can tell you have to buy the plug-on unit and receiver along with one of their crappy (presumably, given the price) mics... which kinda defeats the point. Anyone know of any other brands or units out there? Bear in mind I'm in Australia, so the stuff has to be UHF and cleared for our frequency slots. Cheers, Ben.

Sennheiser has introduced their third generation wireless microphone series which IMO are exactly what you're looking for... Hi-Quality at an affordable price point. There are three levels of Evolution Wireless G3
I hope this helps

I'm not certain but I beieve the SKP100 plug on Tx delivers phantom power, which you wont need with your SM58's I think there is a model that doeasnt do phantom an is cheaper. Also, if youre really on a budget look on E(vil)bay.. they do turn up but probably not 5 at a time ![]() The Sennheisers audio quality is good and you can scan for open frequencies which is nice. I really wouldnt go with anything of lesser quality. |

The SKP 500 G2 - replaced by the SKP 2000 - *does* provide 48V phantom power.
