Cool Cosmo has arrived...

As some of you know, I nick-name all my trucks...

The Grumman is called "The Bread Mobile" aka TMB because it looks like a bread delivery truck plus it made me a lot of bread since I put it on the road in 2003.

The 30' International was named "Jethro" because looking at it from the outside reminded me of the truck from the American sitcom called, "the Beverly Hillbillies".
Jethro was the son of Jed Clampett's cousin, Pearl Bodine.

The Dual Expanding wall Mercedes Benz truck is called "Elroy."
After, Jethro I always wanted a truck that would fit right in with the future.
We named the truck Elroy who was the super smart 10 year old son from the 1960s animated sitcom series entitled,"The Jetsons."

Now, we have "Cosmo" our newest mobile unit.
We just took delivery of this awesome vehicle this past Sunday (5/17/09) and are looking forward in getting it online as soon as possible.

Can you guess how I came up with that name?

Cosmo Cogswell was George Jetson's Boss. It fits in with "his boy Elroy."

Cosmo is Kramer's first name on Seinfeld.

There used to be a radio newscaster in my hometown who used the name
Cosmo Currier.

Cosmo's Factory was a pretty good CCR album.

OK, I'm stumped!

I hope it's not Cosmo Kramer!
He crashes all the time and never has a job.

He does have lots of vintage stuff though.

Because "COSMO" is "OMSOC" backwards which stands for:

"Oh My! Such Obvious Cosmo!!"

...I forgot to take my meds.

First of all, one of you folks got it right!!!

And, to be quite honest, I cannot believe it -- man, you're good.

Also, thedoner is correct - I would not double up on the Jetsons!

EV676, George Jetson's boss and owner of Spacly's Sprockets was Cosmo Spacely.
Cosmo Spacely's competitor was Cogswell; He owned the Cogswell's Coggs company.

I will let the cat out of the bag when I upload some pictures.

Does any one care to guess on who got it right?

Awesome!

I did!!! It's got to be Cosmo from Sonic. Plus "sonic" is sound-related and company-related, so that would be a good double whammy. And the color-code for Cosmo gear will be green.

And I can't imagine naming a truck after Kramer. Maybe it's got a big poofy hair-do? Or maybe you have a "sex and surveys" themed truck after Cosmopolitan. ("The ASL Cosmo Truck - Where all your wildest fantasies will be fulfilled...")

Not that is has anything to do with anything buy his boss was Mr. Spacely, Cogswell was his rival.

On a topic related note. Ford is coming out with a new efficient mini cargo van called the Transit Connect. It looks like a cool little van perfect for small location jobs.

Smile Cosmo's Mobile Factory is in town!

Well, well, I see a few interesting replies...

Keep in mind there is a lot of improvements we will do to the truck as time progresses.
We're going to change the truck body's rear double doors...

I have a few designs in mind, but centered double doors (with a window for each door) is one of my favorite idea options.
This idea is similar to The Bread Mobile, except that it would be a symmetrical door system that matches what the right side door looks like on TBM rig.
The other concept is double stainless steel remote controlled doors.

Inside I plan to install either sliding glass doors or French doors into the control cabin creating a little "porch" at the rear of the truck body.
I've been wanting to do something like this for many years.
I finally got a chance at making it so.

I also need to mount two split-air heat pumps (HVAC) for the control cabin environment.
There will also be four hydraulic leveling jacks installed to balance the vehicle when stationary on location.
This system will level the truck front to back and side to side.

A few belly bins will also be mounted in the appropriate locations.
Since I have tons of space in that "tunnel" storage box I don't plan to mount too many belly bins.

Nah, I don't need a reference to that sort of approach or frame of mind for my operation.

Nope, you're not the cat that got it right, but you have the color code right and that's pretty wild on its own!

Cosmo's color code for all equipment and accouterments shall be green.
Eric and I just picked Cosmo's color code while hanging at the shop the other day.
You are either psychic or your intelligence gathering is top notch.

If you're interested, PM me your address and shirt size and I will send you an Aura-Sonic golf shirt.
I mean, you DID correctly guessed Cosmo's color code!

Yep, that's what I said - Cosmo Spacely's rival was Cogswell.

Hey, that new (in the USA) Ford Travel Connect is a pretty cool little van.
And, the price is right - only $20,000 or so USD. Not too bad.
That could make a great little support vehicle for us one day.

DUDE!!!! You got it on the forth guess of the first reply to this thread.
Now, that's simply amazing. thumbsup

This truck was originally operated by CCR's Doug "Cosmo" Clifford and Stu Cook.
They founded "Factory Productions" which was a mobile recording service in the Bay area. In 1972 Doug Clifford put out a solo album called "Cosmo."
I thought it was fitting to name the truck "Cosmo" because of where this truck originally came from.

Phil Edwards took the truck on in the early 70s and moved the truck body (control cabin) on to a brand new 2007 Hino truck.

Phil decided to sell the truck and its equipment soon after.
I purchased the truck in May of 2009.

We are completely redoing the interior of the truck body (control cabin) to meet our "Aura-Sonic" spec.

I trust we will have it up and operational over the summer as long as everything goes as planned.

I will continue to update this thread as things develop.

Really stupid questions:

That truck is not acoustically isolated or treated yet??

You have to do all the isolation, acoustic treatment, cabling, powering, etc??

Good job!!!thumbsupthumbsup

Very sweet Steve, this appears to the largest, (well, at least the longest) of your trucks. What type of board will be calling Cosmo home?

Cool truck with a cool history...

Do you have any pictures of the interior back in the CCR days? Notable recordings?

There are no stupid questions, just stupid answers.

They did acoustically treat and isolate the structure, but not to the standards that I demand.

We are completely gutting out the interior and redoing it to my specifications.
I also wanted to take advantage of the large control cabin space, so it was necessary to rebuild it from scratch. Man, there will be so much more comfort zone space available when we get through with it.

Hey, if you do it right, you only have to do the isolation, acoustic treatment, cabling, powering and such once.

We could have cheated, but I'm only bagging myself if I did that.
I thought about it for a minute and a half or so and said to myself...
HELLO SELF, WHO AM I REALLY KIDDING ANYWAY?

Remember, this shall be designed as a completely modular mobile unit.
Only the HVAC, AC/DC power, and some A/V/TELCO/COMM cabling will be installed.

Everything else shall be installed and prepped based on what the client or engineer specifies at the time of their booking for their scheduled date(s).

Our available analog & digital audio components (or any third party gear for that matter) can be configured as per the engineer's request with an "a la carte" style which IMO makes this an extremely efficient and effective location production vehicle...

You see, I didn't say just audio production because I haven't limited Elroy, TBM or Cosmo to just one type of production - they are designed to handle all sorts of production ventures.

Yes, Cosmo is 2 feet longer than Elroy, 4 feet longer than Jethro and 10 feet longer than TBM, but it doesn't need a CDL and this is an awesome thing on many levels.

As for the console -- Which ever desk the client or guest engineer wants.
This shall be a completely modular system so anything goes and I mean anything!
If someone wanted our little Studer analog desk with a wrap around couch and pinball machine we'll make it so.

If audio isn't on the agenda and our client wants a video "fly-pack" installed we would be ready to comply.

...Or, how about a mobile hi-tech green room or executive over-flow room or demostration room? Overdubs on location is also a big possibility with this design concept.
It's all doable from where I stand.

I do have a bunch of old pictures I will upload at some point.

I'm still researching the work the truck did when Doug and Stu ran it, but Phil Edwards did a ton of recordings and/or broadcasts with the rig from the Olympics in Canada to jazz dates at Yoshi's.
