I tried a stereo couple of these into my DAV BG1 pre, recording acoustic guitar, and that's finally the sound I was looking for, all my other mics make that guitar sound a little aggressive and hard, but these Mkh40 sound like butter, not to mention as drum overheads where they also kill!!

There is a reason why I own 3 MKH40's and 2 MKH8040's... Great mics. --Ben |

Agree with OP I use them at work as solo mics for stringed/woodwinds to blend with a stereo pair (mostly live choral, orchestral, and concert band stuff). They seem to run a bit hot, I find myself using the pad on them a lot of the time. But whenever I have them for personal use, I wind up staying up all night tracking acoustic guitar riffs =) |

I have a pair of MKH8040 which I think is close to MKH40 and indeed they are superb mic's. For guitar you may also want to try Earthworks omnis.. I have a pair of QTC1 which is "better" than the MKH8040 in some ways. /Peter |

Hmm.. you know what.. I don't think I have made a side by side comparison yet with 8020 and QTC1 on guitar. :-) /Peter |
