I understand the dynamic between an outdoor festival and an indoor (small) concert. That being said, the technical riders I received from each band (for the Newport dates) did not distinguish between outdoor and indoor performances. They were their standard tech rider for any performance (large or small; inside or outside) during their particular tour. Sometimes a special tech rider is created for a "one-off" event, recording and such. Those type of riders could indeed include additional inputs for bass and any other instrument. With regard to the Newport festivals, I could have added a few additional inputs, but I decided to go with what was standard in their tour tech rider. When I'm recording for an album (CD) release I usually go with at least four inputs for upright bass. Sometimes it's more than what I use to capture drums. I want plenty of options even if one of the options is a pick-up or direct output. It's just how I get it done. IMO, as long as it sounds good in the end, there is no right or wrong way of getting it done. Quote:
