I did not plan to buy the NPNG, I was happy with the Flamingo. My dealer got the NPNG in and I took it to the studio and tried it. I was hooked and could not possibly return it. I had the Flamingo alongside for a while but I just went to the NPNG every time. I can´t explain it.

What helped me to finally sell the Flamingo was when I e-mailed Crane Song asking what the input impedance is (so I could optimize the resistor values in my passive summer) and did not get an answer other than "sorry, we´re not telling you. It´s a secret". That is so lame and childish I would sell my Avocet too if it wasn´t so damned good.

Hey, guys

Im trying to decided rather or not to buy the Crane Song Flamingo preamp or a two channel GML

I want two nice clean channels. Does the Crane Song Flamingo just have differant tones or is it accually have a coloring that you can switch too?

the diffearnce between the two preamps is 500 bucks so just trying to figure out if im over buying.

At the moment I have just the Great River preamp. I need two clean channels but was thinking getting the Flamingo cause id like to have another flavor coloring too if the Flamingo will give me that too.

Any comments be most appreciated.

I've had the Spider a little over a month now---sounds better everyday.

I'm recording my D, Jazz no Rock, but I'm sure it sounds great on everything.

Spider

I did a few songs at a place in Canada with a Spider, an API lunchbox AEA TRP and a great river 2NV. I was upset that I didn't have my trusted rack of Hardy M1 pres.

I was blown away by the spider and its mic pres. Used it a lot. Tracking drums I used the pres for every thing but kick and snare and the coles went to the AEA. The spider pres are clean but classy sounding. Not GML clean, I don't care for that sound.
Overdubs, spider was used for acoustic guitars and vocals. Bass too.
Their spider was the center of the studio. it was the master clock for the apogee ad da 16's and PT hd3 rig. On my list of things to buy. Love the Trakker too.
To me the Spider seems like about $25,000 worth of stuff for about $8000 of real money.
Someday they might be thought of like a 8 ch Neve Kelso. No EQ but A/D.

been borrowing an STC-8 to put some polish on this record i've been mixing... what an unbelievable piece of gear. it's rare that a piece of gear is underhyped... but it exceeded all my expectations. they (cranesong) seem to have a tendency of making stuff that not only sounds amazing, but musician-idiot proof... i really really really dont want to give it back.

use the phoenix plugin everywhere as well... one of those rare "make it sound like a record" jobs.

customer service and tech support top notch too...

Spider, 2 Trakkers and an Ibis..

Best money I've ever spent. My rig consists solely of cranesong gear. I'ts simply amazing and makes me look(sound) good. Most versatile gear on the planet. Every studio should have a pair of trakkers.

I just bought my first Crane Song product after auditioning 5 compressors at a studio store. I wanted a great buss compressor To add to my console and hands down i picked the SCT 8.
I have disstressors, MC77s , Alan Smart Comps.
I Have now had the STC 8 for only a few days and i must say its Brilliant and i cant believe how amazing and versitile it is.
On the buss it just blows me away. I never in my life heard a compressor sound this good.
The STC 8 sounds- 3 dimentional, Wider and centers up the vox more in the middle of the sound feild, Its fat and open and makes a huge difference in making the mix stand up. It has a beatiful tone. It has that WOW expensive sound. Makes everything sound alive and musical.

I would use it just to pass signal throught when tracking. 1 for its tone and 2 for it makes the signal sound correct so less fuss when mixing.

I love this Crane Song Comp and I must say i never realised how good Crane Song products were.

Very very Impressed with the STC 8 and the best Comp i have ever heard.

Crane Song stuff is Breath Takingly Unbelievable.

Cheers

The Flamingo and the Ibis are gracing our racks here and both get a workout on a variety of sources. Really good stuff and I'm glad to have them!

Did anyone compare the CS Spider to the Metric Halo ULN-8? Conceptually they're very similar. How about sonically?

Don't know about the ULN-8 but this Jim Williams modded Soundcraft Delta 8 channel board I just bought sounds incredible for Jazz piano and voice. Clear and clean has can be.

More listening to come but a possibility I will be selling my barely used Spider.

What kind of mods are you talking about?
