Hi! I am looking at purchasing a pair of subs for my band's live sound set up soon. We mainly play small to mid-sized clubs/bars, so we don't need anything miraculous. Just nice and punchy. I'm wondering if I would be better off just buying 2 $800 JBL powered subs, or going with and $800 pair of Yamaha's or something with a decent little power amp. Powered subs are so expensive, and I'm not sure if it would be good to get the lower end powered subs like the JBL JRX 118SP's or more of a low-mid priced pair of unpowered subs like the Yamaha SW118V Club series, or even the JBL JRX 118 S's, with a nice $400 power amp. Any suggestions on a good pair of subs for under $1500??? |

Look for something with real wood cabinets, not mdf. They'll probably be lighter and definitely hold up better.

| For the small venues, you don't really need a sub. For the medium ones, the CV earthquakes are a favorite. Power amps are cheap these days... -tINY |

I love the new Peavey SP218. Great dual 18 sub with lots of punch for around $300ea. They also take more power than most in the high-end market!

Check out the KV2 Audio EX 2.2 active double 12" sub. It punches WAAAAAYYYYY above it's weight. It's bigger brothers are also stellar performers.

Find a pair of used EAW best bet in the long run with a nice crest amp!
