Oh and I am very excited to be able to do some shoot-outs between these Schoeps and some more low-end mics, specifically a pair of Oktava 012s. I will also be doing a comparison of them with my Earthworks, both cardioid and omni when I get one of the omni Schoeps capsule pairs.

(I think the Earthworks define "neutrality" but I know you don't like them Plush. However I am interested in the difference in polar response in regard to frequency that the Schoeps will have, unlike the EW mics which are more or less flat at all angles and frequencies.)
I think I need to clarify what I wrote in an earlier post. When we take our Schoeps mics for service at the factory in Durlach, we are taking some 10 year old mics, some 20 year old mics and some 5 year old mics--all of which we bought new. We are also taking in some used mics bought used. It is these Used mics that sometimes need a new capsule. It is NOT that the Schoeps capsules are lasting a short time before needing to be replaced.

Who knows how these used mics bought from Ebay or from a dealer were used. Maybe they were used daily for 5 years to mic a drum beater. Maybe they were used in high humidity conditions in the Amazon. In any case, Schoeps service advises us of what the various mics need and we have that service performed by them.

Ah I see what you meant. I feel better now.The MK4s I bought are only 1 year old and were used twice, according to the guy I bought them from. He seems like a stand-up guy so I believe him.

Corran,

looking forward to your impressions and comparisons with the EW mic's.

I added the MKH8020 and MKH8040 to my QTC1 and I'm not giving up on the QTC1 and was also happy to learn that the noise that has bothered me slightly with the QTC1 on softer instruments was not that bad at all on choir and orchestra.

Actually I'm thinking on a second pair of EW's, likely the QTC50. Will also add a second pair of Line Audio CM3 (the poor mans MK21 sort of).

Yes - the self-noise on the EW is not a problem at all with large ensembles or small groups that are loud (like brass quintet). I played a solo flute recital a month ago though and they were a definite negative.

And I'd love to hear some QTC-50s. I can't imagine a better version of the QTC-1s.

Anyways, yeah I can't wait to do the shootout. Actually what I have in mind is a big shootout between the large variety of SDCs I have on hand, both cardioid and omni. The cardioid one will be done this summer, the omni when I can get those capsules, unless someone has some extra MK2s they would give away
