Of the good omnis, the 183 is at the cheap end - all the others I can think of (you already mention two of them) are all more expensive than the 183.

Haven't actually heard it, but I'm sure the new Beyer MC 910 is worth considering. I have the predecessor (MC 801) and it's quite good. And the MC 930 (current cardioid Beyer SDC) has a rather good reputation 'round here. |

Have you considered the oktava mk-012. You can pick up a stereo pair with omni, card, and hyper-card capsules for the price of one KM183 and they are very useable.

Please consider the Shure KSM-141 mics. These are switchable bewtween omni and cardioid. They are Shure's copies of Schoeps's CMC65 mic.

AT4022 seem to be a very good omni. Member jnorman have posted some very nice clips using these mic's. There's also a Röde mic that has good reputation. /Peter |

I've heard the 141 has a very upfront sound. In your estimation, would the 141s in omni mode work well as outriggers in a 4 mic setup (main ORTF and outrigs)? Thank you!

No doubt that the 141 in omni would be a good choice for outriggers. The mic is slightly present sounding but pretty flat. It is not a trebly sounding mic. Check it out.

I'm really lovin' the Sennheiser 8020 these days. I find myself using them as mains more and more frequently. ~$2200 for a matched pr. And yes, very good mics can be had for less as cited earlier in this thread!
