Hi guys can anybody tell me the pros and cons of Sony PCM D50 and Edirol R-09HR. how the battery life of both unit and how long can it is the maximum time of recording...can i extract the recorded file into multitrack for editing? oh and can i record using the power cables(without batteries), how long can in last, is the track being recorded directly to the Memory cards or it will transfer after your recording... Suggestions will also be appreciated...thanks! |

These devices record .wav files on the the flash card or internal flash memory. You can connect a USB cable to them and transfer the file over to your computer. The battery life is approx 5-6 hours, less if you are powering an external mic, but you usually can run them from a power chord. Sony supposedly has the better mics but Edirols are quite nice. The sony also has special copy protection which could be a hassle. The drawbacks of these two are the lack of balanced XLR inputs for external mics or connection to a separate mixer or computer interface for backup. You have to use the mini stereo line input. With that in mind I would recommend you also look at the new Tascam DR100 or even the Zoom H4n (although I am not a fan of Samson products) |

sony battery life is really long. like 25 hrs. it's a very nice unit. the older edirols (not HR) are nicer, I think, than the newer ones. the older ones are manufactured in japan.
