anybody used one of these for music recording applications?

But I have been using this one's predecessor for many years, but always as part of product sound quality assessment work. They are kind of a 'fixture' in the test world, along with Bruel & Kjaer's type 4100; The Neumann KU-100 is also in use in measurement / test / perception because it's a very affordable alternative to teh Head Acoustics variants. The Head Acoustics versions offer a third equalization not found on the Neumann (diffuse field only) or the B&K type 4100 (free or diffuse field equalization) which is called "ID" for "independent of direction". The KEMAR is also well-known, though in industry, I have seen comparatively few of those.

This is a very good mannequin head, but if memory serves is a bit on the pricey side. I think these run in the neighbprhood of $17k, but they may now be cheaper...I don't recall.
